Negroni's Trio

Latin Jazz Grammy nominee José Negroni, starts up the summer concert series presented by Cacao Musica - “Cosecha 2008” – Miami based and native from Puerto Rico, Jose Negroni, will perform selections from his recent release Father & Son. Though essentially Latin-based, Negroni's Trio, a family affair with the elder Jose on piano and his son Nomar on drums, tends to go in a more straightforward jazz direction, demonstrating a variety of influences.

José Negroni is a fiery, lyrical piano master that along with his son, have developed a rare and special rapport, a music brimming with personal joy and meaning. Negroni’s Trio successfully performs the balancing act between freedom and authenticity; in fact, they make it look easy, taking Latin Jazz trio performance to an exciting new level.*
Negroni’s Trio will be accompanied by special guest:

Ed Calle on saxophone
Marco Panascia on bass.

NEGRONI'S TRIO: The Language of Joy

By: Luis Prieto Oliveira.
EL VENEZOLANO

We have already said that the Negroni’s are great artists; Jose is a talented piano player, graduated at the Conservatory of San Juan in Puerto Rico and with an extensive experience as a performer in several bands and also as a soloist. He is too very proud of his very talented son Nomar, an impressive and brilliant drummer, and that’s why he finally decided to create this trio, with which they have traveled the world with amazing success.

Their latest production “ Father & Son ”, is their third one. As they showed in the concert, they can easily move with great accuracy and virtuosity between all the Latin Jazz expressions as they did in “ Summertime”, that is the prelude of the “Porgy and Bess” opera of George Gershwin. Other pieces, like “ Coquí ”, takes us to the magical Puerto Rican night where the moon and the “Plena” fight with the singing of the emblematic frog of Puerto Rico and “ Roots ”, that take us in a nostalgic musical journey through Latin-American rhythms, from the Argentinean’s Pampas and their sensual tango, to the blue luminosity of the Caribbean sea and its catchy vibe.

Jose Negroni shows his talent when interpreting two very well known pieces: “ My Way ” and “ Night and Day ”, but performed them as if written, the first mentioned, by Chopin and the second piece, as if written by Beethoven.

Father and son are wonderfully accompanied on the bass by Marco Panascia; a true virtuoso of the instrument, who performs both inspired and difficult solos in several pieces. The acoustic bass is a difficult instrument, in which is physically complex and risky to try to reach some acute registries, but Panascia gets relatively easy to the lowest part of the instrument. Special mention deserves the stellar performance of Ed Calle, a magnificent sax player born in Venezuela, but with a long and successful international career. His interventions, solos and his extraordinary “Contrapunteo” and “conversations” with the drummer energized the audience and gave a very special and emotional atmosphere to the show.

This show experience and the joy of the audience, who filled the theater and approved with their applauses the exquisite interpretations and memorable concert, forecast a great success for Cacao Musica and its founders, the Venezuelan big leaguer Bobby Abreu and his partner, Venezuelan businessman and broadcaster Omar Jeanton.
